About FYL

Each year, the UT Dallas First-Year Leader (FYL) Program recruits and trains student leaders to co-teach 60+ sections of the Freshman Seminar and mentor groups of first-year students.

FYLs are high-achieving student volunteers who learn the ins and outs of curriculum design, lesson planning and classroom management while honing their skills as communicators, mentors and public speakers.

Certifications & Awards

“Without a doubt, I know that the FYL Program will become the most memorable and valuable piece of UTD that I carry with me into adulthood.”
